When it comes to the success of a student every opportunity for them to practice their skills is essential. That being said, homework is one of those opportunities! It should never be taken lightly and all assigned homework should be completed as assigned by your student's teacher(s).
Wondering how you can help your student with homework?
Here are a few tips:
1. Have a quiet place for them to work (even if you're on the go).
2. Be sure they have all necessary tools available to complete their work (pencils, pens, calculators, etc.).
3. Be available to answer questions, or be sure there is someone available (mom, dad, a grandparent, an older sibling, etc.).
4. Be sure they have time to complete their work. If it means either arriving a little late or early to your destination, your student's schoolwork far exceeds that of any extracurricular activity.
5. Go to bat for your student if they are struggling more than you think they should be. Talk with their teacher(s), bring in a tutor (if money is an issue check with the high school to see if they have any students who need service hours, explore the possibility of special education services).
6. Check to be sure they've completed the necessary assignments.
7. Be interested! An involved parent is an informed parent!
