How parents can encourage creative thinking:
1. Ask open-ended questions that require more than one answer. (see #3)
2. Praise imaginative thinking.
3. Reinforce creativity by asking questions such as:
Where did you get that idea?
Tell me how you figured that?
Tell me more about...
4. Model the creative problem solving process by thinking aloud (problem, brainstorm solutions, evaluate solutions, and implement the best solution.
